Bangladesh Documentary Photography Tour

1. DAY  ·  Dhaka: Rails, River and Shipyards

Our tour begins early in the morning with a transfer from the hotel to Tejgaon Train Station, where we capture the morning bustle of suburban trains and life along the rails. We then move on to the historic Sadarghat Port, documenting river transport, porters and heavy boat traffic. After a lunch break, we head to the shipyard area along the Buriganga River to photograph welding, metalwork and industrial portraits. We return to our hotel in the evening.

2. DAY  ·  Sonargaon: Architecture, Jamdani and the Meghna

Early in the morning we head to Sonargaon. After photographing the brick architecture and local life of the historic Panam City, we visit a pre-permitted Jamdani weaving workshop, documenting the handcraft, the rhythm of the loom, and the fine details of the weaving process. After lunch, we travel to a boat-accessible village around the Meghna River to capture family life and the river economy. We return to Dhaka in the evening.

3. DAY  ·  Sreemangal: Tea and Village Life

After a long overland journey, we arrive in Sreemangal, taking in agricultural landscapes along the way. After settling into our hotel and lunch, we visit a pre-arranged Khasia/Manipuri settlement, documenting daily life and craft — always on the basis of open consent. In the afternoon, we head to the region's famous tea plantations to photograph the rhythm of leaf-picking in the late-afternoon light. We return to our hotel in the evening.

4. DAY  ·  Jaflong / Sylhet: Stone, Coal and River

Early in the morning we head to Jaflong. At a permitted stone-collection and depot site, we photograph stone labor, work intertwined with water, and transport scenes. After a lunch break, we document portering, texture and workflow at a permitted coal or stone logistics site. In the late afternoon we move on to Sylhet city center, capturing riverside scenes in the evening light.

5. DAY  ·  Sylhet to Dhaka: Stories of the Road

Today is a long transfer day; field stops are determined by the access and security situation the guide confirms the day before. Along the way, at a confirmed stop in the Bhairab/Ashuganj corridor, we have the chance to photograph river logistics and market or roadside labor; where available on site, we also make a brief stop for roadside craft or agricultural processing scenes such as bamboo, iron, matting or grain work. Our goal is to reach Dhaka safely and at a reasonable hour.

6. DAY  ·  Savar: Brick Kilns

We head toward Savar before sunrise. At a pre-permitted primary brick kiln, we photograph mud preparation, molding, carrying and the intense labor around the kiln. After a lunch break and equipment check, we continue at a second permitted kiln, or at different work stations within the same facility. We return to Dhaka in the evening.

7. DAY  ·  Dhaka: Laundry Labor and Ready-Made Garments

Early in the morning we head to a pre-confirmed laundry/washing area, photographing the washing, wringing and drying stages along with labor portraits. After a lunch break, we move to a pre-permitted ready-made garment/textile facility, documenting the rhythm of production and the relationship between machine and worker, in full compliance with workplace rules. We return to our hotel in the evening.

8. DAY  ·  Dhaka: Kamalapur, Kawran Bazar and Departure

On the last day of our tour, we head to Kamalapur Train Station to photograph the morning passenger rhythm from a safe, permitted distance. We then capture market labor and cargo flow at Kawran Bazar. After returning to the hotel to pack, we transfer to the airport according to our flight time, bringing this intensive documentary photography experience in Bangladesh to a close.
